3 rescued, 7 missing after Nigerian oil vessel fire

A Nigerian oil production vessel fire has seen three crew members rescued but seven are still missing.

The vessel, the Nigerian FPSO Trinity Spirit, caught fire following an explosion on Wednesday 2nd February. The flames were put out by the next day. The vessel was located at the Ukpokiti Terminal, along the coast of the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

The vessel had ten crew members on board at the time of the accident. Three members have been rescued, however one dead body has been discovered near the vessel but it has not yet been determined if it’s a crew member.

Ikemefuna Okafor, the executive officer of Shebah Exploration & Production Company Ltd (SEPCOL), the vessel owner, said late Sunday “three crew members have been found alive in the community.”

He said the company would ensure they receive the appropriate medical attention.
