08 Jan A Ghana fire has destroyed the clothing market
A major fire has caused severe damage to one of Africa’s biggest markets for second-hand clothes.
The fire destroyed over 100 shops and left most of the area burned.
Traders at Kantamanto market in Ghana are now asking the government for help to rebuild their businesses and get back on their feet.
“I was at home… when one of my workers called, telling me to come to the market quickly. By the time I arrived at 3 a.m., everything was burnt,” secondhand shoe dealer Kwabena Charles told Ghana’s state-run Ghana News Agency. “We tried to save what we could, but it was impossible.”
