06 Feb Africa and US release joint PSI statement regarding global security
The Government of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Government of the United States of America released a joint statement regarding the Proliferation Security Initiative African Political Meeting and Outreach event.
The PSI meeting in Marrakesh featured senior representatives of 35 countries from the international community, including 25 African States and 10 countries from the PSI Operational Experts Group.
His Excellency Mr. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, highlighted the vital role of the African dimension in international cooperation efforts to face the challenges posed by global security and encouraged more African states to endorse this initiative.
Many participants from African countries expressed their interest in the Initiative and committed to reaffirm and evaluate with all national stakeholders at a later date.
The event showcased the benefits of PSI endorsement and acknowledged the security challenges which overheads both Africa and the global landscape with the promise of a follow-up to take place in the future, which will update on the progress made in Africa.
