Axis launches license plate recognition camera kits

Axis Communications has announced three license plate recognition (LPR) camera kits designed for different traffic environments, from slow-speed access control to free-flow traffic.

The kits come with AXIS License Plate Verifier preinstalled, allowing license plates and, under optimal conditions, vehicle characteristics including type, colour, make and model to be identified without requiring an external server.

The AXIS P3285-LVE Kit License Plate Verifier is designed for slow-speed traffic and uses a 2MP dome camera. It supports vehicle access control, with allow and block lists managed directly on the camera.

For free-flow traffic, the AXIS P1485-LE Kit License Plate Verifier uses a 2MP bullet camera, while the AXIS P1486-LE Kit License Plate Verifier uses a 3MP bullet camera with global shutter technology. The latter is designed to reduce image distortion when capturing fast-moving vehicles and can cover two lanes.

Axis says all three kits are designed to provide LPR in challenging lighting conditions and can be integrated with Axis and third-party video management systems through open APIs.

The cameras also feature electronic image stabilisation. The slow-speed model is vandal resistant and can be installed at lower heights where equipment may be more accessible.

The launch comes as license plate recognition continues to form part of wider intelligent transport and security deployments across the Middle East, including vehicle access control, traffic management and perimeter security.

The three kits are being positioned as ready-to-deploy LPR solutions for organisations requiring different levels of traffic-speed and lane coverage.
