Eight dead following Guinea explosion, fire

Eight have been killed and 84 injured following a blast at an oil terminal in Guinea’s capital city of Conakry early on Monday 18th December 2023.

Whilst the blaze was being brought under control, an officer on scene gave the above as a provisionary toll.

The silence was shattered in the early hours, windows were blown out and the sky was painted an eerie red, hundreds were forced to flee as soldiers and firefighters ran to the Guinea oil terminal.

A statement announced workers to stay home and closed all schools in the area.

The cause of the fire has yet to be announced.
