29 Mar Fire at South African orphanage kills 13 children

A South African official says 13 children are dead after a fire tore through an orphanage in Johannesburg early on Tuesday 22nd March.

Mandla Ngema, spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development, added that police don’t know yet what sparked the blaze. He said that fire investigators from Pretoria are continuing to search for clues.

A total of 15 people have been killed, including 13 children at the Hope of Christ Home in KwaZulu-Natal province. Hope of Christ is a non-governmental organisation registered under South Africa’s Department of Social Development.

Investigations continue.
