08 Aug Google expands AI fire alert tool to Africa

Google has expanded its AI-driven fire alert tool to 15 additional countries in Europe and Africa.

The tool uses satellite imagery and other data sources to monitor and accurately map fire boundaries.

It has been extended to countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Andorra, Bosnia & Herzegovina, France, Greece, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Cyprus, Montenegro, Monaco, Portugal, Slovenia, and Turkey, in addition to its existing presence in the US, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico.

This initiative is part of Google’s broader strategy to use Artificial Intelligence to help global communities adapt to climate change and mitigate related risks.

The tool not only provides fire alerts but also integrates with Google Maps to help users navigate away from wildfire-affected routes.

In early July, Google’s fire-related information was accessed by around 1.4 million people following outbreaks in Europe and Africa.
