17 Mar HID and iPassport sign MoU for new identity verification solution
HID and iPassport have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a new identity verification solution for the transportation industry.
The solution was unveiled at the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2023, which took place a few days ago. The AI-powered passenger identity verification technology will enhance the travel experience and optimise airport efficiencies too.
The need for passengers to have access to reliable and swift identification verification is long overdue, as currently navigating through the airport requires a multitude of touchpoints and processes.
Vito Fabbrizio, Managing Director of Biometrics, Extended Access Technologies at HID, said: “Today, moving through an airport securely requires an ongoing and seamless identity verification system that not only enhances the passenger experience, but also optimises efficiencies for everyone.
“HID is excited to collaborate with iPassport to bring this new solution to market.”
The modular solution enables airlines and airport operators to add identity verification capabilities quickly and easily to their existing systems, without the need for ‘rip and replace’ methods or migrating to new platforms.
The new solution includes:
- Facial Recognition Camera Hardware
- Fingerprint, ID Document & Ticket Readers
- Software Development Kits (SDKs)
- ID Proofing & Biometric Server
- Device Management
- Biometric Professional Services
Significant performance and matching accuracy are achieved thanks to HID’s patented multispectral imaging (MSI) technology and ethically trained artificial intelligence (AI) that is built within the HID U.ARE.U Camera Identification System.
Passengers will need to provide prior consent to the use of facial recognition technology, during booking or check-in. In addition, the biometric information is only stored and used while the passenger is in transit within the airport to ensure the system complies with applicable data privacy laws.
