Homeowners increase security measures in SA

An overwhelming majority of homeowners in South Africa had locking bolts installed, according to Budget Insurance, who polled its customers to find out their attitude to home security.

The research also revealed that 72% of its customers inside estates and 83% outside estates had also installed security gates.

The move to beef up security at home has coincided with the widespread migration from offices to working from home. Statistics from the South African Police Service demonstrate that the extra investment in securing homes is well worth it – as home burglaries in the country are on the up. Between January and March 2021 there was a 7.6% increase in the crime, compared to the previous year.

When it comes to security measures, the most effective for homeowners is defence – with physical security measures the first line in defence. As a result large security firms are seeing a boom as homeowners carry out security audits to safeguard their properties.
