Sakina Forest, a 150-hectare park on the outskirts of Kenitra, Morocco, remains a popular destination for families enjoying summer barbecues.

Despite its allure, the park faces significant fire risks, especially during the hot season when it attracts 5,000 to 10,000 visitors daily.

Park ranger Ahmed Araba highlighted the challenges to AfricaNews which is caused by first-time visitors who often dig holes and light fires to cook their meals.

He said: “The primary issue we face is fire, particularly in the summer.”

To mitigate these risks, the National Agency for Water and Forestry (ANEF) has launched a fire safety awareness campaign, educating visitors on the dangers of careless fire practices.

Morocco’s forests are highly flammable during summer due to increased temperatures, low humidity, and dry winds. Just one moment of negligence can spark a blaze.
