10 Jul Security Institute hosts AGM, where it announced new directors

The Security Institute held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 8 at the Millennium Hotel & Conference Centre, where members and stakeholders gathered for updates on the Institute’s direction and strategy.

The Chair, Julie Nel MA CSyP FSyI, opened with a keynote address reflecting on recent events and acknowledging those who have contributed to the organisation.

She welcomed new interim CEO Sarah Austerberry MLitt CSyP FSyI, and thanked Mahbubul Islam CSyP MSyI for his past contributions. Nel discussed recent initiatives and the challenges the Institute faces, emphasising a strategic focus on Influence, Membership, and Professionalisation.

Updates included the status of SABRE, membership figures, and financials. The results of the Director Elections were announced, welcoming new board members Matthew Seel CSyP CNSP FSyI, Andrew Donaldson MSc BSc (Hons) CSyP FSyI, Chris Middleton CSyP Dip ML MSyI, and Rachel Webb MA CSyP FSyI. Nel congratulated the new directors, thanking all candidates for their commitment.

The day ended with a Board meeting and a networking session. Nel said: “It was an insightful day, and as always, I welcome the interaction and feedback that we receive from our members. I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of our new directors – I look forward to working closely with them all. We have a bright future ahead: The Security Institute continues to evolve and grow, responding to new challenges while remaining steadfast in its mission to be the leading professional body for security professionals in the UK.”
