13 Jan South Africa’s largest airport is running out of fuel due to fire
South Africa’s largest international airport, OR Tambo near Johannesburg, is facing the possibility of a fuel shortage for aircraft due to a fire that broke out at the Natref oil refinery on January 4.
This situation is causing concerns as the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) has warned that urgent action will be necessary to prevent a lack of aircraft fuel from January 20 to January 27.
Currently, ACSA has stated that there is enough fuel to support normal operations until January 20. However, after that date, delays and disruptions may occur at airports across the country, particularly at OR Tambo, which is the busiest airport in Africa, having serviced 21.6 million passengers last year and offering 93 different routes.
Officials are closely monitoring the situation and are urging prompt measures to ensure that air travel remains uninterrupted.
