15 Oct Survitec to showcase new foam fire suppression system at major event
Survitec has introduced its next-generation high-expansion foam fire suppression system, designed to deliver enhanced foam output at lower operating pressures. This is set to significantly reduce both installation and through-life costs for shipyards and ship owners.
The breakthrough lies in a redesigned generator that enables greater foam production while maintaining lower feed pressures. Historically, pressure has been a limiting factor in foam system performance, often leading to increased demands on pumps and water supply, which drive up both equipment costs and operational requirements.
“Lowering pressure was our number one objective,” explained Maciej Nieścioruk, Product Manager for Foam and Clean Agent Systems at Survitec. “By optimising nozzle alignment, introducing new moving elements to create rotary momentum, and enhancing airflow, we have developed a solution that achieves high expansion rates at significantly lower nominal pressures, which ultimately reduces costs.”
Nieścioruk added: “The performance of the new generator means fewer units are necessary to produce the same volume of foam. This reduction translates into considerable savings in capital and installation costs. Combined with the lower pressure demands, this gives ship owners a system that is lighter, more efficient, and easier to service—all without compromising fire safety.”
The new foam generator incorporates several advancements that collectively enhance efficiency while reducing overall system size.
The optimised nozzle alignment ensures that all parts of the generator are utilised effectively, eliminating blind spots and maximising foam output. A new rotary element improves discharge efficiency, while a redesigned impeller draws more air into the generator, allowing for better distribution of the foam solution.
This new configuration reduces the pressure needed to generate foam, achieving a higher and more consistent expansion rate.
Survitec will be available to discuss the next-generation high-expansion foam system at Kormarine, taking place in Busan, Korea, from 21–24 October 2025. Survitec will be located at stand 1G45 in Centre 1.
