WIOCC secures $300m investment to expand Africa’s digital infrastructure

WIOCC Group has secured a combined US$300 million investment from Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) and Vision International Investment Company (Vision Invest), under a Shareholder Subscription Agreement signed at LEAP 2026 in Riyadh.

The investment is intended to support WIOCC’s expansion of digital infrastructure across Africa, including data centres, terrestrial fibre networks and subsea connectivity.

The deal comes as demand for data, cloud services and artificial intelligence continues to increase across the continent. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), 35.7% of Africa’s population was using the internet in 2025, compared with a global average of 73.6%.

WIOCC operates in more than 30 African countries and provides open-access digital infrastructure supporting connectivity and data services. Its existing shareholders include a number of African telecommunications operators, alongside international development and investment institutions.

Samaila Zubairu, President and Chief Executive Officer of AFC, said the investment would help expand the digital infrastructure needed for African businesses and communities to participate in the digital economy.

Chris Wood, Group Chief Executive Officer of WIOCC Group, said the funding would support the company’s long-term growth strategy, including accelerating data centre deployment and consolidation, expanding its terrestrial fibre footprint and investing in new subsea assets.

Vision Invest President and Chief Executive Officer Omar N. Al-Midani said continued investment in connectivity and digital ecosystems would be important as demand for digital services grows across Africa.

The investment brings AFC and Vision Invest into WIOCC’s shareholder base and is expected to strengthen the company’s capacity to expand its infrastructure and connectivity services across African markets.
