11 Aug Hanwha Vision launches sub-16mK AI thermal cameras

Hanwha Vision has launched a new VGA AI Tele lens Thermal Camera series, combining high-sensitivity thermal imaging with AI-based detection for land and maritime security applications.

The cameras feature NETD below 16mK, enabling the system to capture detailed thermal data in low-visibility conditions. According to Hanwha Vision, this allows its AI engine to classify people and vehicles more accurately, including partially obscured individuals and those who are crouching or prone.

The technology is aimed at applications including critical infrastructure, perimeter protection, coastal monitoring and border security.

The new series also introduces AI-powered vessel detection designed for maritime environments. Operators can detect and classify vessels alongside people and vehicles, supporting applications such as coastal protection, port security and maritime border control.

Thermal imaging allows the cameras to maintain detection capabilities in fog, rain, snow and complete darkness, supporting monitoring across shorelines, waterways and open-sea environments.

The series is available with four lens options — 13mm, 19mm, 35mm and 60mm — providing different detection ranges and fields of view. Each model is also available in either a 30fps high-frame-rate version or an 8fps version, allowing configurations to be selected according to regional regulations and procurement requirements.

Cybersecurity is another focus. The cameras incorporate a FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified Secure Element for hardware-rooted encryption, alongside SD card partition encryption to help protect surveillance footage from unauthorised access and tampering.

Designed for demanding outdoor deployments, the cameras carry IP66/67, NEMA 4X and IK10 ratings and comply with MIL-STD-810H for resistance to rain, humidity, vibration and salt exposure. Enhanced transient protection is also designed to improve resilience against electrical surges and unstable power conditions.

The new series expands Hanwha Vision’s thermal surveillance portfolio across land and maritime security applications.
