31 Aug Siemens reports strong response to connected fire detectors
Siemens Smart Infrastructure says its new Cerberus Nova range of fire detectors has received a strong market response following its UK launch, reflecting growing interest in connected and data-driven approaches to fire safety.
The detectors are designed as fully IoT-connected devices, providing 24/7 self-checks, real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance. Siemens says the approach is aimed at supporting smarter buildings while reducing reliance on manual intervention and maintaining system availability.
The Cerberus Nova range is available across the Middle East and Africa in markets that accept Siemens’ EN54 portfolio.
At the centre of the range are two technologies designed to improve detector supervision. Disturbance-Free Testing (DFT) carries out self-checks continuously, potentially reducing system downtime and the need for interruptions associated with on-site service visits.
Smoke Entry Supervision (SES), meanwhile, monitors detector smoke entry points in real time. The system can alert users if detector functionality is compromised, allowing intervention before the issue develops into a greater fire safety risk.
The detectors also incorporate Siemens’ ASAplus technology, which combines multi-wavelength optical detection with dual thermal detection. The aim is to distinguish genuine fires from deceptive phenomena and reduce false alarms, potentially limiting unnecessary evacuations and disruption.
Robert Yates, Siemens’ Head of Building Products Fire Safety in the UK, said the market response reflected a wider move towards cloud connectivity and data-driven, self-supervising systems. He said:“The trend in fire safety is very much towards cloud-connectivity and it is evident that the market was very ready for a product that is based on creating data-driven, self-supervising systems that automatically test periodically. This provides a vital contribution to making buildings smarter and moving increasingly towards human-centric, autonomous buildings.”
The development also incorporates environmental considerations. Cerberus Nova detectors are manufactured using recycled plastic and carry Siemens’ EcoTech environmental product performance label. According to Siemens, the design supports resource efficiency and circular economy principles, alongside the operational benefits of connected fire detection.
The development highlights how digital connectivity is increasingly being incorporated into detection systems, with manufacturers seeking to combine fire detection performance with continuous system supervision, remote visibility and improved maintenance efficiency.
