09 Oct Paxton launches redesigned PaxLock Pro2
Paxton has launched the PaxLock Pro2, a redesigned version of its wireless access control handle aimed at improving durability, installation and day-to-day operation.
The manufacturer said virtually all parts of the previous PaxLock design have been updated, with particular attention given to the locking mechanism and handle. The company said the mechanism has been tested beyond one million operating cycles, while the handle has undergone testing for rotational torque strength.
The new model also introduces a privacy button, responding to feedback from installers and users. Pressing the button allows occupants to secure a room from inside, preventing access from outside until the privacy function is released.
Fire and safe egress requirements have also been addressed. According to Paxton, the PaxLock Pro2 meets FD30 and FD60 fire resistance requirements and is certified to EN179 for emergency exit devices. These certifications are intended to support its use across a range of commercial and public sector environments.
The access control hardware incorporates the electronic lock, reader, control unit and battery supply within the door handle. Paxton said the redesigned product is intended to make installation simpler and more tolerant of installation conditions.
The PaxLock Pro2 can be deployed as a standalone offline access control device or integrated into Paxton’s Net2 and Paxton10 access control platforms. The same model can be used on internal and external doors, according to the manufacturer.
For Paxton10 installations, the handle incorporates a dual-frequency RFID reader and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support for mobile credentials. This allows users to unlock doors using compatible smartphones.
Battery performance is another area the company has addressed. Paxton says the handle can provide up to 55,000 operations, or approximately two years of use, from a single set of batteries. A capacitive wake-up function is designed to activate the device when a credential is presented.
The launch reflects the continuing move towards wireless access control hardware that can be installed without extensive cabling, particularly where adding conventional electronic locking infrastructure would be disruptive or impractical.
Paxton is also running a series of online webinars to introduce the PaxLock Pro2 and demonstrate its features and installation process.
