African man dies in Sharjah tower fire

An African man lost his life last week in Sharjah while attempting to escape a fire that broke out in a 38-storey residential tower in Al Nahda district, according to authorities.

The fire reportedly originated in the electrical transformers on floors 18 and 26. Despite the quick and efficient response from Sharjah Civil Defence, some cases of suffocation were recorded. Residents were evacuated safely and quickly. Residents of the 38-storey building were evacuated safely in record time.

The building consists of 33 residential floors and 5 parking levels, with each floor having eight flats. The building has three blocks (A, B and C), and the fire broke out in Block B.

The incident was reported at 10 pm, and firefighters responded immediately, evacuating the residents to safety.

Some residents reported to Gulf News of seeing an African man who had jumped from the building and died instantly.

Sharjah Police were also on hand to assist residents. By 3.40 am, senior police and civil defence officials were on site to supervise the operation.
