Easter fire displaces 700

An Easter fire devastated Cape Town’s informal settlements, leaving over 700 people homeless.

According to News24, the City of Cape Town’s disaster risk management centre found that 339 homes were destroyed across four sites, affecting 759 people.

In response, organizations such as Gift of the Givers and Islamic Relief provided humanitarian assistance, including hot meals, clothes, and hygiene kits for the next five days.

The focus has now shifted to debris removal, infrastructure repair, and rebuilding plans with affected communities. Sadly, two people lost their lives, and others were injured.

Fire investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire. The residents, shaken but hopeful, shared their harrowing experiences and appealed to community leaders and NGOs for continued support.
